Performance Fuel Injectors, Fuel Rails & Components

High flow rails and injectors get more fuel into your engine

With a bit of practice, driving your vehicle becomes almost like second nature. You do not need to think about what you are doing when you decide to go somewhere, because you are so used to doing it. However, what happens underneath the hood is still a very complex process, and part of it is moving fuel from the fuel tank into the cylinders where it is exploded and turned into power to move your wheels.

If a part of your vehicle begins to break down and needs to be replaced before you are left stranded, or you want to add an accessory to your vehicle, you want to have a wide variety of parts to choose from. This makes CARiD your destination, because we have every part you need, for every vehicle you have, so you can stay on the road.

The fuel injector may seem quite simple, but it actually works in a very complicated way. Rather than simply inject fuel into the cylinder, it needs to inject exactly the right amount, at exactly the right time, and at the right pressure to keep your vehicle working efficiently. It shoots the fuel in a fine mist, rather than as a normal liquid, which means the resulting explosion is more likely to consume all of the fuel, so you get better fuel usage. It needs to do this at precisely the right second, and can do it many, many times per minute when your engine is working hard.

It is a small component, about the size of a spark plug, and sits above the cylinder with the nozzle pointing directly into it. It is connected to the fuel rail, which is the component that supplies the fuel, and is controlled by a computer, which tells it when to insert fuel and how much of it to insert. The nozzle at the end is very small, which allows the fuel to be sent out in the fine mist required, and the electronic and fuel connections at the top are all designed to provide the fuel and signal without interfering with the process.

Of course, nothing is perfect and there are a few problems that can occur with your fuel injectors. For instance, the nozzle of the injector can become clogged with contaminants that escape the fuel filter, and these can cause the injector the spray a smaller amount of fuel than is required, or no fuel at all. The connections can fail on an individual injector, causing a lack of fuel to enter it, or even preventing it from receiving the instructions it needs. Each of these problems has a number of symptoms to warn you, and early action is important.

The symptoms include basic issues such as a slightly rough idle, or a little difficulty in getting the engine to start when it is cold. However, if you ignore these symptoms and allow one or more injectors to continue to fail, you can end up with serious symptoms, including an inability to start the engine at all. Very rough idling, missing or a severe lack of power are all warnings about your injectors, and taking immediate action, such as replacing one or more injectors, can prevent problems from becoming severe at the worst possible time.

Guides & Articles
Fuel injectors spray fuel directly into your engine’s cylinders during the intake stroke when a piston moves down to allow air and fuel to fill the cylinder chamber. When injectors are malfunctioning, leaking, or have failed completely, they will cause rough engine performance, poor idle, reduced power and economy, and exhaust that’s rich enough in unburned...
