About Mazda 2

In 2002 the Japanese automaker Mazda, which had a long-term experience in production of stylish and premium performance vehicles, introduced the second generation of its 5-door hatchback Demio. This car is marketed as Demio in Japan only, and the rest of the world knows it as the Mazda 2. Introduced in the United States in 2009, Mazda 2 is the first subcompact car manufactured by Mazda for North America since 323 model production has been ceased in 1994. The Mazda 2 adds sporty dynamic performance and eye-catching designed parts to the B-segment, and at the same time it meets such requirements for subcompact vehicles as high fuel efficiency, high crash safety performance, and roomy passenger space. The main competitors of the Mazda 2 are Toyota Yaris, Nissan Micra, Suzuki Swift, and Ford Fiesta.

The second generation Mazda 2 was built on the DY platform, and it was available in the S, TS, and TS2 trim levels. In 2004 the last two trims were renamed as Antares and Capella respectively. All models came with Z-family engines: 1.4-liter MZI engine producing 79 hp, 1.6-liter MZI rating 99 hp, and 1.4-liter MZ-CDTi Diese developing 67 hp. The car came with the choice of 5-speed or 4-speed automatic transmission. All cars came standard with ABS and EBD. In 2007, there was introduced the 3rd generation Mazda 2, which was based on the Mazda DE platform, also used by Ford for the 2008 Ford Fiesta. Built using lightweight materials, the DE platform allowed to reduce overall dimensions of the car. The second generation Mazda 2 was powered by 1.25L I4 MZI C2, 1.4L I4 MZI C4, 1.6L I4 MZI C6, and 1.4L I4 Diesel MZ-CDTi engines.

The North American version of Mazda 2 was unveiled at the 2009 LA Auto Show, and its production version was introduced in 2010 as the 2011 model. The stateside Mazda 2 is available with 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine rating 100 hp. The engine is paired with a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. The car is offered as a 4-door hatchback in Sport and Touring trim levels. The standard safety features include ABS, anti-skid system, traction control, dynamic stability control, brake assist system, electronic brake-force distribution, advanced front-side airbags, and curtain-side airbags. All models come standard with power windows and mirrors, air conditioning, door and windows locks, remote key-less entry, and 60/40 split folding rear seats.

Mazda 2 is a powerful player of the B-segment. Since the beginning of its production, the car has earned more than 50 awards across the globe, including Car of the Year award in over 20 countries. It is easy to see why the Mazda 2 has become one of the most popular subcompacts. Being ideal for city driving, this car is economical, responsive, and comfortable. Base model cars and trucks (also known as "strippers" or "entry level") have little if any chrome while luxury and top-of-the-line ones...

2011 Mazda 2 | Posted by Paul | (Buffalo, NY)

Brake pads and rotors fit my Mazda 2 just fine, they are nice and quite unlike some pads. Had an installation question called the 800 number and got a answer in a timely fashion.
