About Kia Borrego

The Kia Borrego debuted in the American automotive market in 2008. The luxury SUV is manufactured by Kia Motors under the Mohave name and marketed as the Kia Borrego in the North America. The name Borrego signifies 'big-horned sheep' which could be found in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California. The Kia Borrego was named after the above mentioned state park. The Kia Borrego was designed by Peter Schreyer, a former chief designer for Audi. The new SUV showcases the "less is more" design philosophy of Kia parts and conveys pure and functional look. Kept on the Kia's new design direction, the Kia Borrego is intended for people who prefer active and energetic lifestyle.

The Kia Borrego is based on traditional truck-type construction and offered in LX and EX trim levels. The engine choices include 3.8-liter 6 cylinder engine producing 276-horsepower and mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission or Kia's first V8, a 4.6-liter DOHC engine rating 337-horsepower and paired to Kia's new 6-speed automatic transmission. Compared with any engine in Kia's line nowadays, both engines are more powerful. A 4-wheel drive and a rear-wheel drive are offered. The 4WD Borrego models feature the improved full-time Torque-on-Demand® system from BorgWarner, which ensures the responsive operation in different road conditions. Due to fully independent front and rear suspensions and the body-on frame construction, the Kia Borrego provides an optimal on- road or off-road performance. The Kia Borrego interior offers more space for 7 passengers than Jeep Grand Cherokee and Toyota 4Runner. The car is provided with a sliding second row. To optimize the cargo space, the second and third row seats can be folded flat. The modern front and rear instrumental panels suggest the luxury, while 18-inch alloy wheels provide great off-road capabilities. Inspired by Kia's design philosophy, the Borrego is intended for both family rides in town or off-roading in the mountains.

As all Kia vehicles, the Kia Borrego offers the same high level of safety features, including front-side airbags and curtain-side airbags, brake assist system, ABS, electronic brake distribution and electronic stability control. The downhill assist control helps to keep the vehicle moving straight and prevents the wheels from locking. The hill assist control allows to stop uphill the vehicle without sliding backward. Both mentioned functions are new to Kia. In 2009 the Kia Borrego was rewarded as the 'Best in Class Sport Utility Vehicle'. According to the Consumers’ Top Rated Vehicle awards, the Kia Borrego has been recognized the top-rated SUV in the United States. The consumers highly marked the Borrego's overall excellent value, superior power and towing capacity, premium fuel economy and interior space, along with enlarged list of standard features and parts.

Spacious, luxurious, and equally capable of handling itself on and off the road, the Kia Borrego has quickly turned some heads. Featuring a roomy interior loaded with plenty of cargo space as well as quality materials throughout the cabin design, the Kia Borrego offers comfort that is second to none in its class. The Kia Borrego also portrays a brutish yet sophisticated look that sends an elegant message in its own way. This is the ride that's on the fast track to the top of the heap and it deserves nothing but the best accessories and parts.

Kia Borrego SUV Is not Going to Make It Next Year

According to certain sources, the Borrego SUV will not be sold in 2010 in the U.S. market, even though it was presented only a year ago. As stated by the Car Connection, Kia has sold 9,510 SUVs in 2009 through the end of November while it was hoping to sell up to 20, 000 units a year. Moreover, the world is moving away from such truck-based SUVs as the Borrego, while shifting towards car-based crossovers which have the improved fuel efficiency. Being forced to stop the importation of Borrego due to model not being a strong seller, Kia still declined to comment on the matter.

According to Autoblog, its discontinuation was rather predictable. It is still not clear if it's a discontinuation or Borrego might just skip the 2010 model year. At this point, the vehicle's departure could be a certain gain for Kia with people getting interested in Borrego.

While the automaker doesn't give any national Borrego offers on the official website, the Autoblog informs about some incentives: Kia is offering $3,000 in cash back on all trim levels. The details are: $1,500 for trading in a competitor's vehicle (from the Buick Enclave to the Jeep Wrangler and Pontiac Aztek), $400 for recent college grads, $500 for military service, and $1,500 for owner loyalty.
