The Range Rover enters its fifth generation with a new platform that fits battery-electric powertrains and numerous aesthetic updates that bring fresh looks. Dated back to 2012 and slightly refreshed with a few new accessories and parts in 2017, the SUV finally received a complete redesign that made it much more competitive in the fast-growing super-luxury SUV segment. Perhaps the most intriguing part of the newcomer is its new platform that made its debut in the latest Defender. According to official information, it is called Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) and is rumored to be utilized in most of the future Land Rover and Jaguar models. Hands down, any time a vehicle moves to a new platform, its mechanical specifications and therefore driving performance can be significantly altered. The whole new Land Rover SUV is no exception. But what remains the same is the reliable operation of even the smallest 2021 Land Rover Range Rover accessories under the metal.
Compared to the aluminum-intensive D7u platform previously used by the Range Rover, the new MLA is lighter, which allows for alleviating some of the additional weight brought on by electric batteries. This year’s models are available with either a mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid drivertrain. The former is claimed to be offered as standard. The latter replaces the previously available plug-in single-electric motor setup. It gets power from an inline-6 engine teamed with two electric motors, one each for the front and rear axles. The newcomer is also available as a fully electric SUV. However, it is rumored to be offered as a standalone version. Even with the new MLA, this luxury SUV from Land Rover retains the same dimensions as the outgoing model. Besides, it also has a familiar appearance yet still features a handful of new 2021 Land Rover Range Rover parts of both the interior and exterior.
The new vehicle looks unmistakably a Range Rover but with smoother exterior lines and angles. Inside, the newbie comes with enhanced tech. Compared to its predecessor, the 2021 SUV is claimed to look and feel more luxurious thanks to a number of redesigned accessories throughout the cabin that give just the right amount of luxury and functionality. Customers can now enjoy all the benefits of the latest version of the Touch Pro Duo system designed to allow the driver to multitask with greater safety by using two screens at the same time. In addition, the new model shares the ‘self-learning’ Smart Settings technology with the Jaguar E-Pace. There is also a great number of safety and entertainment technologies which aim to make driving as safe and enjoyable as possible.
The Range Rover turns 50 this year. To commemorate its birthday, Land Rover rolled out a limited-edition model, namely the Fifty. The newbie was specially designed and engineered for the American market and built in only 1,970 examples. Of note, that number was chosen as a tribute to the first production year of a vehicle. It’s not only an attractive looking but also pretty capable model with a V8 supercharged engine under its hood. The mill in question has a displacement of 5.0 liters and is capable of generating up to 518 horsepower. Engine power is transferred to all four wheels through an eight-speed transmission. In such a configuration, the SUV can reach 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
