Pickup truck wars have been going on for decades, but the battles are getting fiercer in recent years. As usual, Ford leads the pack, while Ram and Chevrolet are in fight for the second place in the top-selling class. Total redesigns are more frequent, and significant improvements are made on a yearly basis, all in order to meet the ever-growing needs of the picky public. The all-new fourth-generation Chevy Silverado 1500 debuted for the 2019 model year, while the redesigned 2500HD and 3500HD pickups followed for 2020. However, a year after the 1500 model launch, Chevrolet expanded the availability of towing tech and its venerable 10-speed automatic transmission, while also raising towing power to 13,400 pounds. Major interior upgrades are reportedly coming for 2021. The heavy-duty lineup is still fresh after last year’s debut of the new generation. What is confirmed so far for 2021 is the launch of the Carhartt Special Edition for the Silverado 2500HD and the Realtree Edition for the full-size truck. And what is known for sure is that, as always, there will be fantastic aftermarket support for any version of the truck, with tons of 2021 Chevy Silverado accessories and parts readily available for customization of any kind.
Chevy and Carhartt are both old brands well familiar to workers, and they teamed to create the ultimate hard-working truck. Chevrolet took the 2021 Silverado 2500 LTZ crew cab as a basis and added a tonneu cover, tow hooks, 20-inch wheels, a yellow pinstripe, and Carhartt logos to the exterior, while enhancing the interior with Jet Black and Carhartt Brown leather-appointed seats. On the cooler side of things, there is the Z71 Off-Road Package that comes standard, which tacks on heavy-duty parts such as twin-tube shocks and skid plates. That same package outfits the Silverado 1500 Custom Trail Boss, on which the Realtree Edition is based. That means the Realtree model not only throws in camouflage styling inside and out but is also ready to tackle tough tasks off pavement.
The standard powertrain on the half-ton Silverado 1500 is a 4.3-liter 285-hp V6 paired to a 6-speed automatic. Plenty of upgrade options are available, including a 5.3-liter 355-hp V8, a 6.2-liter 420-hp V8, and a 2.7-liter 310-hp turbo four, mated to 6-, 8- and 10-speed automatic gearboxes. A 3.0-liter I6 diesel was new to the pickup truck range last year, and with its 460 lb-ft of torque available already at 1,500 rpm, it is an excellent choice for towing. As for the HD lineup, its engine choice is limited to only a pair of options, being a 6.6-liter gasoline V8 and a 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8. The diesel-powered Silverado 3500HD equipped with dually wheels, a 10-speed Allison transmission, and a gooseneck hitch can pull up to 35,500 pounds, which was an unbeatable figure at the launch of the fourth generation. Both light- and heavy-duty models can be ordered with GM’s excellent towing technologies, which include GM’s camera-based Advanced Trailering System and an in-vehicle Trailering App. If you need any towing accessories, repair parts, maintenance products, or visual and performance upgrades, look no further than our 2021 Chevy Silverado parts and accessories catalog where we have reasonably-priced products from top aftermarket brands.
