Forged wheels are the elite of aftermarket custom rims. They’re stronger and lighter than any other type of aluminum alloy wheels, and the preferred choice of those who demand maximum performance, including racing drivers at the highest levels of motorsports competition. And because they’re available in 3-piece construction, which allows virtually unlimited customization, many consider them the most attractive wheels, especially luxury and sports car owners. Look over our extensive selection and you’ll see that no matter whether you’re looking for a performance advantage or want the ultimate appearance boost, or both, we have the forged wheels that are right for your vehicle, some available at a price you’ll find surprisingly affordable.
The forging process starts with a chunk of premium quality aluminum. This is heated and forced into the raw shape of a wheel using huge hydraulic presses that apply many tons of pressure. Every wheel design is created using CAD (Computer Aided Design), and the design parameters are then used to write CNC (Computer Numerical Control) programs. CNC machining centers are then programmed to bring the wheel to its finished configuration, first forming the rim section (barrel) and blank wheel face, and then the wheel stud holes and final face design elements. The finished wheel is then painted, powder coated, polished or chrome plated, or a combination thereof. One-piece (commonly known as monoblock), 2-piece, and 3-piece wheels are all made in a similar manner, with multi-piece wheels being assembled after the separate parts are machined and finished.
Forging makes the aluminum denser and less porous and alters the grain structure, which makes the wheel exceptionally stiff and strong. The superior quality of the forged aluminum means less material is needed to achieve the desired strength, which is why forged wheels can be made very light. Lighter wheels reduce unsprung weight, making your suspension’s job easier. The springs and shocks have an easier time keeping the tires in contact with the road, so you get the traction you need for acceleration, braking, cornering, and general road holding. The lighter barrel also reduces rotational inertia, for more responsive steering and faster braking and acceleration.
Monoblock wheels are the lightest forged rims, and they can also be stiffer, so for many racers and street enthusiasts who want all-out performance, they’re the wheels to have. However, the fitment and customization possibilities make multi-piece wheels extremely desirable. Two-piece wheels generally have a center section that is bolted or welded to the barrel. Three-piece wheels have a center section that is bolted to an inner and outer barrel. Their modular construction means numerous offsets and rim widths can be created with 3-piece rims, so wheels can be created to fit any vehicle, and accommodate suspension and brake modifications. Construction that starts with 3 individual pieces also lends itself to many different custom finish options. And since even the strongest rims can get bashed during a race, even though they’re slightly heavier than monoblock wheels, many racers prefer multi-piece wheels because they can be repaired and only the damaged part replaced.
Our forged wheels are available in diameters from 14” to 34”. If you’re like many enthusiasts, you probably want to go with rims that are larger in diameter than your OE wheels. Larger diameter rims are perfect for mounting big, aggressive off-road tires on a lifted truck, or if you’d rather stick to paved roads, larger diameter wheels allow you to run low profile tires. Their shorter sidewalls are stiffer and don’t flex as much, so you may experience more responsive steering. The great thing about upsizing with forged rims is that you won’t pay a weight penalty. If your stock wheels are steel or cast aluminum, our forged wheels will be lighter even at a larger size. When you upgrade and upsize to our light weight forged wheels, you’ll not only see more beautiful wheel, you’ll have better performance as well.
Our unrivaled forged wheel selection is so vast, you’ll have no problem finding the set that perfectly complements your car, truck, or SUV. Along with a choice of size and construction, we offer numerous wheel styles and finishes from which to choose. Our designs range from the avant-garde to the traditional, cutting edge to vintage inspired. You’ll find a large assortment of spoke shapes and patterns, wheel face and lip configurations, and degrees of concavity, in a wide range of finish treatments, from traditional chrome, polished and brushed, to ever popular black and many other colors. Many wheels have special effects including two-tone, complementary and contrasting color accents, machined spoke faces and milled accents, and much more. Three-piece wheels may be available with blind or exposed assembly hardware, and many forged wheels can be ordered custom painted for a unique appearance.
