The first generation of the Volvo XC90 was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in 2002. The model became the first SUV offered by the Swedish company. Utilizing a unibody P2 platform engineered by Volvo in the late ‘90s, the XC90 entered the U.S. market with two engines (a turbocharged 2.5L I5 and twin-turbocharged 2.9L I6 rated at 208 and 268 horsepower respectively) that were mated to either a 5-speed or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Though the model belongs to the luxury SUV segment and is rather expensive, it became the best-selling Volvo vehicle soon after the introduction and was surpassed only by the XC60 in 2008. The second generation of the XC90 came to Volvo dealerships in 2014.
