The Volvo 740 is a mid-size executive automobile offered by Volvo Cars of Sweden from the mid-eighties to the early-nineties. The Volvo 740 is considered to be a lower-end model of the luxury Volvo 760. Overall, the 740 was offered as both a four-door sedan and a five-door station wagon. The automobile series featured a choice of inline-four and inline-six engines and automatic and manual transmissions. Most of the vehicles were equipped with Bosch Jetronic fuel injection systems. The Volvo 740 Series were among the last vehicles produced by Volvo under Swedish ownership, before Volvo Cars were acquired by the Ford Motor Company.
