The Vento is a subcompact car manufactured by Volkswagen since 2010. Based on the Polo, it was specially designed for certain markets. The word Vento means “wind” in Portuguese and Italian. The model is marketed in Mexico and Malaysia as the Vento, in the Philippines as the Polo Notch and in a range of other countries including Thailand, Argentina, and the UAE as the Polo Sedan. The vehicle is available only as a 4-door sedan. Compared to the Polo it is based on, the Vento comes with a higher clearance of 6.6 inches and extended wheelbase of 100.5 inches, with the overall length being 172.6 inches.
The Volkswagen Vento utilizes three engines with various availability on different markets. The base one is a 1.6 L I4 capable of producing 103 hp, while a 1.2 L turbo I4 that delivers the same power output is offered as an option. Diesel power is available too, provided by a turbocharged 1.5 L I4 that also generates 103 hp. The range of transmissions consists of a 5-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, and 7-speed dual-clutch. All powertrains deliver notable performance complemented by excellent fuel economy. The Vento also provides superior drivability and dynamics; a dual-clutch gearbox ensures smooth acceleration at all speeds.
For 2015, the Volkswagen Vento was facelifted, having received styling cues similar to the brand's other current models, including the Jetta. It got a longer hood with more prominent creases along with redesigned headlights, fog lights and bumpers. The grille was made both bigger and wider. Interior updates are less visible – the cabin of the car remained essentially a carryover except for some new upholstery color combinations. Though, the model now offers a range of new comfort features like outside rear-view mirrors featuring integrated turn indicators. A trunk lid now has a button enabling it to pop open from the outside.
