Today's automotive world has a strong focus on electrification. The EV market will soon be crowded, and Volkswagen rushes toward the electric future with its ID lineup of vehicles. The Volkswagen ID.4 is a fully electric compact crossover SUV set to arrive in 2020 as a 2021 model. While being the first member of the ID family bound for the U.S., it is built with the requirements of American drivers in mind and assembled at Volkswagen’s manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Thanks to a wide range of Volkswagen ID.4 accessories and parts, owners can further adapt their vehicle to individual needs.
The ID.4 crossover rides on the dedicated modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform. With the battery put under the passenger compartment, this architecture keeps the center of gravity low and ensures a balanced weight distribution, which translates into agreeable driving dynamics. The SUV’s aerodynamic exterior design reduces the drag coefficient and helps increase the driving range to 310 miles in the top-of-the-line model. This number puts the ID.4 ahead of the likes of the all-electric Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro. Rear- and all-wheel drive configurations are available.
Thanks to clever battery packaging, the VW ID.4 benefits from generous interior and cargo room. The absence of a transmission tunnel allows plenty of space for rear passengers and luggage. The SUV features a fully digital cockpit, with virtually all physical buttons replaced by touchscreen controls and voice commands. Whatever level of customization is available from the factory, there’s nothing like driving a vehicle that is uniquely your own. Today’s aftermarket offers a myriad of choices when it comes to personalization, with Volkswagen ID.4 parts and accessories helping the owner bring any project to life.
Exterior-wise, the ID.4 carries over many of the styling cues from the concept vehicle it is based on, named the ID. Crozz. The slim headlights with wraparound LED DRLs are there, as is a sharply-contoured front bumper giving the SUV a handsome look. The body parts of the ID.4 are more sculpted than those of its ID.3 sibling available outside the U.S. The SUV received some rugged accessories and trim like plastic body cladding on the sides. The coupe-like roof of the concept vehicle did not carry over, giving way to a more traditional wagon-style architecture.
