It’s back! The well-known and admired Volkswagen Microbus was revived as an electric vehicle with a host of sophisticated technologies. It’s probably one of the longest-expected models. First introduced to the public as a concept car in 2017, a retro-futuristic Volkswagen ID. Buzz resurrects the icon camper van from the automaker. Of note, it’s the second EV concept that the automaker revealed for production. Although it looks familiar, it’s absolutely different from its predecessor. There are lots of innovative Volkswagen ID. Buzz accessories and parts inside and out, all of which are built with performance in mind. It sits on a whole new MEB platform with precisely crafted chassis parts.
The newcomer is available as both a passenger and commercial van. Whatever the version, it offers the choice of a short or long wheelbase. On the downside, only a long-wheelbase passenger van will be available for sale in America. When it comes to a battery, there are three models to choose from. They have different capacities (from 48 kWh to 110 kWh). Depending on the battery version, the van can run from 200 to 300 miles on a single full charge. As far as charging time is concerned, you can get an 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes when plugging into a DC fast charger. The EV is available with either rear- or all-wheel drive. The former offers about 200 horsepower, while the latter can produce up to 300 horsepower. As you see, the new Microbus is powerful enough for nimble driving on tight city roadways and highways. For comparison’s sake, the first version sold in America had only 30 horsepower. So things did change.
On the outside, the vehicle is hard to be mistaken for any other vehicle than the VW Bus. It has a similar shape and paint job to those of its predecessor. To wit, it features a two-tone V-nose, rectangular windows, etc. The current version comes with intelligent LED headlights that not just look eye-catching but also can ‘communicate’ with passers-by and other drivers. As an example, they point the direction you are going to turn. Besides, they use light signals to alert pedestrians about your presence on the road for the sake of safety.
The cabin looks like a spacious living room with a flat floor. The interior is very versatile and convenient. The steering wheel has an unconventional shape and accommodates an intuitive touchpad that allows the driver to control all functions. Those drivers who want to make a personal touch of style to it can opt for custom floor mats, seat covers, and other accessories offered by the aftermarket. There is also a variety of Volkswagen ID. Buzz parts and accessories you may need to repair or maintain your camper van.
