Toyota began the production of its full-size pickup truck, the Tundra, in May 1999. It is the first full-size pickup in North America to be built by the Japanese carmaker. The Toyota Tundra was named the Truck of the Year by Motor Trend magazine two times – in 2000 and in 2008. The original generation of this pickup had much in common with its predecessor, the T-100, including a 3.4 L V6 power plant. Later, a 4.7 L V8 was added, becoming the first V8 motor to be utilized by the brand's pickup truck. In 2006, the second generation of the Tundra debuted. It received styling cues from the Tacoma and FTX concept and became more powerful. The Toyota Tundra's run is still ongoing.
