The primary thing that determines the overall ride height of a vehicle is the free length of the spring. These longer springs will raise your vehicle above its factory ride height the correct way. Spacers will raise the vehicle, but at the expense of suspension travel, and for off-roading you need to maintain as much suspension travel as possible. Lots of articulation is necessary to keep as many wheels as possible on the ground. Think about it: how much traction does a tire have when it's 6 inches above the ground? The correct answer is: none. Clawing your way up a hill or boulder requires as much traction as possible, so don't give it away by using short springs.
