The Ascent, Subaru’s biggest model, has entered the crowded three-row SUV class which already includes the Dodge Durango, Honda Pilot, Chevrolet Traverse, Mazda CX-9, Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder, Volkswagen Atlas, and many others. The 2019 Ascent is a seven-seat crossover that was designed to fill the gap left by the ill-fated Tribeca which was dropped in 2014. Based on the Ascent concept, the 2019 model got a less shapely liftgate and D-pillar and horizontal tail lights. In addition to the new Global Platform, which is stronger for better handling and improved crash protection, the 2019 Ascent got an all-new turbo-four 2.4L direct-injection engine that is really good on a CVT. It also comes standard with Subaru’s symmetrical AWD system. Same as other vehicles in the 2019 Subaru lineup, the Ascent offers a 50th anniversary edition with special badging.
Subaru buyers are among the most loyal customers often staying “in the family” for several car generations. However, the absence of a three-row SUV has forced some customers in need of more room, more utility, and more power to look elsewhere. The 2019 Ascent was designed to recapture some of these shoppers. It is larger than the Tribeca (158 inches in length, which is about 9 inches longer than the Outback) and offers more interior room for greater comfort. Inside the 2019 Ascent is Subaru’s latest Starlink infotainment system with an 8” touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features also include Subaru’s EyeSight active safety suite (an automatic braking system, lane keeping assist, sway warning, high beam assist, and adaptive cruise control) and a power liftgate. The Ascent boasts a larger storage area even with the third row of seats in place.
Seven-seaters have a high demand nowadays (especially with a little extra luxe inside). The 2019 Ascent is a reliable, family-adventure vehicle.
