The Smart Forfour is a subcompact hatchback marketed by the division of Daimler AG. As the name implies, the vehicle is designed to accommodate four people. The first generation of the model was produced for a short time between 2004 and 2006. Developed in partnership with Renault, the model shares the platform and most components with the Renault Twingo and mechanicals with the third generation of the Fortwo. Just like the preceding generation, the new Forfour also features four doors and has the same passenger capacity. This version can be fitted with smaller power units – a 1.0 L I3 good for either 59 hp or 70 hp and 0.9 L turbo I3 rated at 89 hp or 107 hp. 5-speed manual and 6-speed dual-clutch gearboxes are offered. A plug-in hybrid variant is available as well, using a turbocharged 1.5 L diesel I3, a pair of permanent-magnet motors and a li-ion battery. The max speed of the car is 84 mph and the all-electric range tops out at 20 miles. The electric Forfour can be ordered too, it comes with an electric motor generating 60 kW and offers nearly 100 miles of range.
