The Seat Arona subcompact crossover entered the market for the 2018 model year. The vehicle shares its wheelbase with the Ibiza subcompact car and has some similarities with it in the interior. The Seat Arona utilizes the crossover variant of the corporate MQB A0 platform that allows for fitting larger wheels, elevating the driving position, and ample interior and cargo room compared to the cars using the regular version of the same platform. Plus, it offers a range of benefits, for instance, the platform is lightweight enough to make the Arona one of the lightest vehicles in its segment. This ensures better fuel economy, performance, and driving dynamics. Besides, versions with a 100-hp engine and above come with a limited-slip differential as standard.
The Seat Arona utilizes a broad range of engines, all featuring a turbo-compressor, automatic start/stop system, and direct injection. The range includes three gasoline engines, all of them using aluminum blocks. The entry-level one is a 1.0 L I3 rated at 95 hp that works together with a 5-speed manual. There is a more potent variant of this unit that delivers 115 hp directed through a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch. The most powerful gasoline engine is a 1.5 L I4 capable of producing 150 hp that is connected to a 6-speed manual. It also uses cylinder deactivation technology for improved fuel efficiency. A diesel engine option is offered as well. It’s a 1.6 L I4 available in two states of tune – 95 hp and 115 hp. A more potent variant is paired with a 6-speed manual, while the entry-level one works together with either a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch. The Arona can also be fitted with CNG engines, being a 1.0 L I3 that delivers 90 hp and a 1.6 L I4 generating 110 hp. All versions of the crossover are front-wheel drive.
The list of standard equipment offered by the Seat Arona is quite generous and includes LED headlights, silver bumper moldings, chrome window frames and roof rails, cruise control, fatigue detection system, and much more.
