Vehicle & Parts Protection
The new all-electric pickup truck segment is being shaped by a dozen of upcoming models from both well-established and startup automakers. Rivian belongs to the latter group. It is a fast-growing and promising company based in California, which has its own fully functional factory and is backed by funding from Amazon and Ford. With its first production model, the Rivian R1T, the company is ready to battle its way to the top of the newborn segment. “Impressive” isn't an overstatement when it comes to describing this vehicle. The R1T accelerates at supercar-like speeds, is able to tow up to 11,000 pounds, and has at least 300 miles of range, just to tell a few fast facts. In its options lists, there's even a built-in camp kitchen with two electric burners and a sink. And like with any truck, a unique level of customization is possible thanks to Rivian R1T accessories and parts available in the aftermarket.
The R1T measures 215.6 inches in length, landing between mid-size and full-size pickups. Two battery choices are available at launch, a 135-kWh pack enabling the truck to travel around 300 miles between charges and a 180-kWh option extending the run to 400 miles. The truck has a four-motor 4x4 setup with one motor driving each wheel independently. Such a setup helps make the truck nimble on pavement and plenty capable off-road: torque vectoring sends the right amount of power to the wheel that needs it. It also enables a special kind of off-road fun that comes in the form of a so-called Tank Turn. Overall, the R1T's powertrain generates around 800 horsepower and 900 lb-ft of torque and can launch the machine that weighs almost 7,000 pounds to 60 mph in a blistering 3 seconds flat. Every R1T rides on an air suspension that maximizes ground clearance to 14 inches from 8 inches.
Storage is another area where the Rivian R1T shines. In addition to a 4.5-ft bed, there's a frunk (front trunk) that can hold up to 11 cubic feet of cargo and a one-of-a-kind Gear Tunnel between the cab and the bed. The truck features a variety of outlets to power just about any accessory, including three 12V sockets, four 120V AC outlets, and six USB ports. Inside, the R1T takes a minimalist design approach, but any owner can easily dress up the cabin to their liking with Rivian R1T parts and accessories. Instead of buttons, most functions are controlled via a 16-inch touchscreen. In front of the driver, there is a configurable instrument display. Rivian's truck is packed with tech, with one of the highlights being the Driver+ suite of electronic assist systems that includes semi-autonomous driving capability.
