The very first crossover by Renault, the Koleos became a true multinational project. It is developed by Nissan, designed by Renault, and manufactured by the South Korean division of the company known as Renault Samsung Motors. Debuted in 2006, the first-gen Koleos was equipped with front- or four-wheel drive and received hill decent control, hill start assist, ESP, and other features. Engine options for this SUV included a 2.5L gasoline I4 developing 175 hp and a 2.0L diesel I4 rated at 150 hp. The engines could be mated to a CVT or a six-speed automatic or manual gearbox. The Koleos has a bold presence, with a pronounced grille, distinctive C-shaped running lights, and lots of chrome trim pieces up front. Owners who want to further enhance their vehicle inside and out have plenty of aftermarket options available in our Renault Koleos accessories and parts catalog.
The French automaker could not miss the opportunity to use Nissan's great experience in building 4x4 SUVs such as the famous Patrol or X-Trail, so the first-generation Koleos was based on the X-Trail and borrowed its sophisticated All Mode 4WD system and a perfect suspension. This tried and tested four-wheel drive mechanism was one of those features making the X-Trail so popular; for most of the time, it transfers torque to the front axle only for better fuel economy, and the rear wheels get activated automatically when the front ones start slipping. Meanwhile, 2WD versions of the Koleos were also available.
The company facelifted the model in 2011, and five years later, the second-generation Koleos was introduced at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show. Like its predecessor, it got five star safety ratings by Euro NCAP and was outfitted with four-wheel drive, but its appearance and internals were completely changed. It received much more modern, sculpted design and became longer, about 184 vs 178 inches in length, however, the seven-seater was not available. Interior materials have been improved; the vehicle can be ordered with leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, extendable seat cushions, 8.7-inch portrait format touchscreen, 13-speaker BOSE sound system, automatic parking system, and other features making the driving experience more enjoyable.
Nowadays, the second-generation Koleos is available with two gasoline and two diesel engine options, but they are offered for different markets. For instance, in the UK, diesels are exclusively available: a 1.6L I4 and 2.0L I4 rated at 130 and 175 hp respectively and coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. The Mexican market received the sole 2.5L gasoline I4 linked to a CVT. Other equipment can also differ depending on the market or configuration, but whatever version you own, you can always adapt it to your needs using our quality accessories and parts.
