Today, there are plenty of ways to boost your vehicle’s performance. You may install a turbocharger, high-flow cold air intake system, high-performance exhaust headers and many other power add-ons. But if you do want to get the most out of your vehicle, you can’t go without a performance tuner or programmer, especially if you ride a race car. A racing tuner or programmer will help you recalibrate your engine settings in order to accommodate all customization you have done, which, in turn, will allow your motor and all power boosters installed perform at their peak efficiency.
A racing tuner or programmer not only allows you to fine your ride for race-winning results, but also gives you complete control over your vehicle operation. Many modern-day tuners and programmers make it possible for the driver to monitor the performance of the engine and all vehicle’s systems on the go, so you can make all necessary adjustments if needed. With the help of a tuner or programmer you will be able to change your air-fuel ratio for improved acceleration or reduced fuel consumption, provide speedometer calibrations, change ignition timing and many more. You’ll also have a unique ability to record performance adjustments and apply them again with just a click on the button.
The majority of racing tuners and programmers are plug-and-play devices designed to connect to an OBD-II port, which has been a standard for all vehicles produced in the USA since 1996. Once installed, such tuners and programmers get direct access to all data stored in the ECU, allowing you to run scans for diagnostic trouble codes. In the event you have an older vehicle without an OBD-II port, you can also install a racing tuner or programmer. In this case you may go with one of devices that cut into your vehicle’s wiring harness. These tuners and programmers get signals from various engine sensors, modify and send them back to the ECU, causing it to adjust engine settings.
