Year in and year out, cars come jam-packed with more advanced, high-tech safety features creating a more confident driving experience. Accessories like power mirrors are standard equipment on most new vehicles on the road today, and manual operation of these components is only a memory for most drivers. In most cases the controls are mounted on the door for easy access, enabling the driver to adjust side view mirror position with the touch of a button. This feature is beneficial for adjustment of the passenger side mirror, which previously required egress from the vehicle or passenger's assistance.

Early remote control side mirrors were controlled by bowden cables, but today these mirrors are electrically controlled with a built-in motor operated by a switch, usually mounted on the door. A single switch is used to adjust the angle of the mirror, with a button or buttons to select the driver or passenger side mirror. Once the mirror is selected, the adjustment button can be used to tilt the mirror up or down, and left or right, for optimal visibility. This is designed for maximum convenience, allowing for the mirrors in the entire vehicle to be controlled from the comfort of the driver’s seat.

Folding side mirrors in helps to protect them when going through a car wash and when the vehicle is not in use, particularly when parked on narrow, busy streets. Many luxury vehicles now come with power folding mirrors. The switch to operate the folding mechanism may be clustered with the mirror adjustment switch. Some of these vehicles even have an automatic feature that folds the mirrors when the door is locked, and unfolds them when the door is unlocked, the driver’s door is opened, the vehicle is started, or moving, depending on how the system is configured.

Electrochromic mirrors can be found on some luxury models. These mirrors have a layer of electrochromic material sandwiched between 2 plates of conductive glass, and work in response to input from forward and rearward facing sensors. The forward sensor detects ambient light, while the rearward sensor measures glare from headlights. Mirrors darken proportionally in response to ambient darkness and increased glare, and lighten when ambient light increases. This special auto-dimming technology enables to significantly cut out glare for the driver and passenger.

Great Value. Great Product
I had been contemplating just leaving the bad mirror switch in place and adjusting the mirrors manually. Works great for the drivers side and not so much for the passenger side mirror. The switch price at CARiD was once of the most competitive out there and I bought it. Super fast shipping, real easy and fast installation, and a perfectly operational switch. You can't beat this deal anywhere. Bob Piazza
