In 1967, the Plymouth GTX debuted as a special, performance-oriented version of the Belvedere. It was a real muscle car equipped with a powerful 7.2-liter V8, reinforced suspension, and having some distinctive styling details in the exterior. In 1968, the GTX underwent restyling and received a more aerodynamic silhouette and several technologically advanced systems including the front disc brakes and new suspension system. In 1970, the automobile received a restyled "power bulge" hood, which gave the model a gorgeous and more aggressive look. The sales, however, were low, and in 1971, the model was eventually dropped. However, the company left this nameplate as an option for the Road Runner manufactured at that time.
