Since 1909, the Permatex name has been synonymous with quality and innovation. It is recognized in the USA and beyond as an industry-leading provider of chemical automotive maintenance and repair products such as sealants, cleaners, greases, metal fillers, and more. Since the company manufactured its first product, a shellac designed to bond bicycle tires to their rims, it has grown to become a global enterprise exporting products to over 85 countries.
Permatex serves a variety of industries, including automotive, marine, and heavy duty, and collaborates with carmakers, parts suppliers, and OE manufacturers to develop the next generation of technology and provide its customers with the highest value. Continuous innovation through research and development keeps Permatex ahead of the automotive maintenance industry and makes it the first choice for professionals, do-it-yourselvers, performance buffs, and motorsports teams.
The Permatex name is renowned and trusted in motorsports. The company's founder, Constant A. Benoit Sr., had a strong passion for car racing and observed that many of the cars were forced to make frequent pit stops to replace blown cylinder head gaskets. He developed an experimental gasket cement that was applied to Ralph DePalma's car after it blew its head gasket for the fourth time during a 24-hour endurance race at the Sheepshead Bay, and this enabled the car to run till the end of the race without any gasket problems.
In 1936, Milt Marion won the first race at the Daytona Beach road course with the Permatex Form-A-Gasket Test Car. In the mid 1970’s, NASCAR superstar Bobby Allison built a car entirely with Permatex products and without a single cut gasket or lock washer and was able to run 157.094 mph for 300 miles at Talladega Motor Speedway. Permatex is a winner of numerous awards honoring the company's dedication to excellence and innovation, and has been recognized by organizations including AAIA (Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association).
