If you experience a pulsation in the brake pedal when braking, chances are one of more of your brake rotors have developed thickness variations, excessive runout or hard spots. If you hear a high pitched squeal or squeaks when you brake, you may have glazed rotors (and pads). And if you hear a grinding noise when braking, your pads may have worn down to the backing plates and are making metal-to-metal contact. On further inspection, you may find that the rotors aren't scored too deeply and may possibly only need resurfacing, but keep in mind that a thinner rotor will not be able to handle high heat situations during repeated hard braking and may end up warping. And even if you're not experiencing any brake problems and your rotors look OK, they may be worn beyond the minimum thickness specification.
