Though it shared the E-body platform with the Buick Riviera and Cadillac Eldorado and was considered a “true pony car”, this model featured a front-wheel drive layout. In fact, after the 1937 Cord had been ceased, the 1966 Toronado was the first American production car equipped with a FWD. Throughout its manufacture, the Toronado underwent three major revisions, in 1971, 1979 and 1986. All Toronado versions were officially sold in North America.
