In North America, the Nissan Kicks was introduced for the 2018 model year as a successor of another subcompact crossover, the Juke. The model was introduced in 2016 in Brazil and the sales started there the same year and then spread throughout South America. The wheelbase of the new vehicle is 3.5” longer, that’s why it offers more rear-seat space, being capable of carrying 5 occupants with comfort. The Kicks is also 6.7” longer and 0.6” higher. Thanks to a longer wheelbase and more upright shape, the model delivers significantly more cargo space – 25 cu. ft. with the rear seats up. The new model is also more conventional and employs advanced technologies and safety features. Safety features are a strong point of the Kicks – all versions of the crossover come with a backup camera, automatic emergency braking, 7 airbags, and forward collision warning offered as standard.
The Nissan Kicks takes its power from a naturally aspirated 1.6 L I4 capable of delivering 125 hp. Connected to an advanced Xtronic transmission, this engine delivers remarkable fuel economy, returning 33 mpg combined. A sole FWD layout is available for the model. The Kicks utilizes electric power steering and delivers excellent maneuverability thanks to a strut suspension in front and twist-beam setup in the rear, both with stabilizer bars. The rear suspension also comes with twin-tube shock absorbers. The Nissan Kicks uses disc brakes in front and drum ones in the rear, both with ABS, traction control, hill start assist, and dynamic control.
The Kicks by Nissan has a dramatic styling with well-recognized signature elements. It comes with boomerang headlights and taillights, V-Motion grille and floating roof. Bold fenders along with a rising beltline emphasize the crossover stance of the vehicle and its power. A lower body dark trim visually enhances height and ground clearance and helps resist scrapes. The interior of the Nissan Kicks features a modern and simple dashboard and 7” color display that houses an advanced infotainment system offering smartphone compatibility. There is a flat-bottom steering wheel, adjustable front seats (6-way driver’s and 4-way passenger’s), and fold-down rear seats. An exclusive audio system by Bose, leather steering wheel, automatic temperature control, and heated front seats are available optionally.
