The Nissan Altima was first built as a compact four-door and four-seat sedan in 1992 for the 1993 model year. Initially, it took power from a 2.4 L I4 engine capable of generating only 150 hp and mated to a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. The second-generation Altima had the same powertrain, but the output rate was increased to 155 hp. Since 2001 on (the third to fifth gen), the model has been manufactured as a mid-size car. The third generation made boast of an enhanced to 175 hp 2.5 L I4 engine and a 3.5 L V6 unit capable of producing 260 hp. The fourth generation brought a two-door coupe first built in 2008 and offered with either of the two engines. Also, the first Nissan Altima hybrid was produced from 2011 till 2014. The current Nissan Altima sedan is equipped with an enhanced 2.5 L I4 engine with 182 hp, or with a 3.5 L V6 producing 270 hp.
