The EV future is just around the corner, and there are already lots of electric pickup truck models announced by different automakers. Although Nikola Motor Company is primarily known as a manufacturer of electrified commercial transportation, it jumps on the electric pickup bandwagon with the Nikola Badger. The company has ambitious plans to take on the likes of Tesla’s Cybertruck and Rivian’s R1T, and with the impressive driving range and horsepower of the new Badger, it has good chances to beat the competition. What sets this vehicle apart is that it can work as a pure battery-powered EV or as a battery-electric plug-in hybrid when upgraded with the hydrogen fuel cell system. Nikola also promises genuine utility, starting with 4x4 and ending with a refrigerator hidden in the cabin. And of course, like any other truck, this machine encourages customization, with the right Nikola Badger accessories and parts tweaking it to every owner’s needs and liking.
When powered solely by a 160-kWh li-ion battery, the Badger can cover up to 300 miles, while a 120.0-kW fuel cell ups the driving range to an estimated 600 miles. Its powertrain can make a whopping 906 peak horsepower (455 continuous HP) and 980 pound-feet of torque and can accelerate the truck to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. Nikola’s first pickup is claimed to have an 8,000-pound tow rating and overcome steep grades without stalling. With a 15-kilowatt power source on board, the Badger allows for keeping the tools and equipment charged. The Badger is built by Nikola in partnership with another manufacturer, using its parts and production capabilities. Although fuel cell powertrains are not in great demand these days, the company is planning on building as many as 700 hydrogen refueling stations throughout the United States and Canada.
The Nikola Badger can seat five people in a spacious, high-tech, and functional cabin. The floor has a cargo mounting system to keep the load in place ensuring safe transportation. The interior is said to offer “waterproof” quality, while the exterior is made up of stamped metal panels for strength and durability. Personalization is a big part of pickup truck ownership, and whether it’s making your vehicle more capable of handling work duties at a construction site or giving it an appearance upgrade, the market responds to the needs of owners with the right Nikola Badger parts and accessories.
