For your starting and charging system to function properly, all components must be properly mounted and secured. That may sound like basic common sense, but the fact is there are many potential causes including corrosion, vibration, and use of incorrect parts that can result in problems ranging from poor system performance to extremely dangerous situations. But no worries, we have the parts that can keep your vehicle operating properly and safely.

Battery tray corrosion is a common problem, and in extreme cases a corroded tray could collapse, possibly resulting in the battery tipping over, short circuiting and causing a fire. Vibration can cause alternator brackets to crack or break, which can result in the belt jumping off or becoming loose enough to impair charging. And using the incorrect starter mounting bolts can negatively affect the meshing of the starter drive and flywheel gears.

Battery electrolyte contains sulfuric acid, which is highly corrosive. A leaking battery will make short work of a battery tray, but there doesn’t necessarily have to be a leak to corrode the tray. Conventional Flooded Lead Acid (FLA) batteries are vented, and the gas that’s released can cause corrosion on the terminals, and the metal hold-down and tray. This type of damage is less common now that more and more vehicles are equipped with sealed batteries, but it is especially prevalent on older vehicles when conventional FLA batteries were all that was available.

There are chemical products on the market that can restore the appearance of a rusty battery tray, but this approach is predicated on the assumption that corrosion hasn’t compromised the strength of the metal. Batteries are very heavy and there must be sufficient material for adequate support. The safest course of action is replacement, and we offer new battery trays for both late model vehicles and classic cars. Some replacements for newer vehicles are made of plastic that is impervious to corrosion and most trays come in a kit with everything needed for installation. Our classic car trays are identical to OE in every detail.

If your late model vehicle has a broken alternator bracket, there’s no need to pay the high dealer price, and if you need one for a classic restoration, you don’t have to hunt around at swap meets. We offer OE spec brackets with 100% correct appearance to position the alternator for proper charging system operation. We also have the correct starter mounting bolts that many vehicles require to ensure the starter is properly located. Substituting ordinary bolts can result in a starter that is out of position, which can cause the starter drive and flywheel teeth to grind and destroy themselves instead of meshing properly.
