Introduced as a spiritual successor of the Mighty Max discontinued in 1996, the Mitsubishi Raider entered the North American market in 2005. While the smaller L200 was marketed globally, the Raider was an exceptionally American vehicle specially adapted to meet the demands of North American customers. Utilizing Chrysler’s ND platform, also used for the Dodge Dakota of the time, the Raider was offered with either a 2- or a 4-door cabin and with a RWD or 4WD configuration. The powertrain options list was also nearly identical to the Dakota’s one: a 3.7 L V6 or 4.7 L V8 mated to a 6-speed manual or 4/5-speed automatic gearbox. Despite Mitsubishi’s expectations, the model turned out to be a commercial failure showing constantly unsatisfactory sales figures, which is why it was discontinued in 2009.
