The Mercedes GLC Class was introduced in 2015 as a new Mercedes' entry into the compact SUV market. The GLC Class was designed as a replacement for the defunct GLK Class model in the Mercedes’ SUV lineup. Compared to its predecessor, the GLC grew by 4.7 inches in length, 2.0 inches in width, and 0.3 inch in height. Its wheelbase is 113.1 inches, which is 4.6 inches longer than the GLK’s one. When the sales started in the U.S., the Mercedes GLC Class was offered to customers in two options, including the GLC300 with rear-wheel-drive and the GLC300 4MATIC all-wheel-drive model. Both models were powered by a 241-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The Mercedes-AMG GLC43 4MATIC joined the GLC Class lineup in the 2017 model year. Based upon the GLC300, this crossover received a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder biturbo engine, a nine-speed automatic gearbox and a sport air suspension. Larger 14.2-inch front and 12.6-inch rear rotors translate in improved brake efficiency and shorter stopping distances. The 4MATIC all-wheel drive feeds 31 percent of torque to the front axle, while 69 percent go to the rear one, as compared with the GLC300 4MATIC, which splits torque 45/55. With 362 horsepower under the hood, the AMG GLC43 4MATIC makes a 0-60 mph run in 4.5 seconds.
Apart from the standard SUV body, both the GLC300 and AMG GLC43 offer a four-door coupe configuration. Being pretty much identical to their standard SUV-bodied siblings mechanically, GLC Class coupe models feature slightly reduced body height and cargo capacity. Interior treats remain unchanged as well, featuring a 7.0-inch standard and 8.4-inch optional infotainment unit, large central console, power driver’s seat and liftgate, automatic climate control, optional heated front and rear seats.
