At the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz presented a preview of the company's fifth SUV, the GLA class. The production GLA made its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Mercedes equipped the GLA with a new generation of the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system with fully variable torque distribution. The 4MATIC lets the torque divider make a stepless torque distribution to the vehicle's axles. This all-wheel drive system provides high tractive power and outstanding mobility and as a result reliable driving safety and energy efficiency. Vehicles with 4MATIC are provided with Downhill Speed Regulation along with an off-road drive program to meet the requirements of easy cross-country driving.

The Mercedes GLA is powered by a 208 HP 2L I4 direct injection turbocharged engine with seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. All GLA engines are ECO Start/Stop feature, which automatically shuts off the engine at red lights to save fuel. Different driving assistance systems help the driver to be confident on the road. The GLA SUV has ATTENTION ASSIST for drowsiness detection. The radar-supported COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST with Adaptive Brake Assist as standard warns you with audible signals if a constantly monitored distance to surrounding vehicles becomes dangerous and helps reestablish a safe distance.
