Since the advent of motorsports, automotive engineers have been working out solutions to bring racing technology to the street. The Mercedes AMG Project One is the pinnacle of these efforts. Unveiled at the motor show in Frankfurt in 2017 in celebration of AMG's 50th anniversary, it is the world's first hypercar to be built around the latest and fully-fledged Formula One hybrid technology brought directly from the race track to the road. This makes the Project One a road-legal Formula 1 car. Its powertrain is the same as that used by Lewis Hamilton to take the lead of the F1 championship and consists of a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 and four electric motors.
The total output of the hybrid system is rated at more than 1000 hp. The car can attain a maximum speed of over 217 mph and does the run to 124 mph in almost 6 seconds. Its rear mid-engine setup can rev the engine to 11,000 rpm, a number never seen on a roadgoing production car before. To reach such an impressive engine speed, the pneumatic valve springs were used instead of the mechanical ones. The hypercar's hybrid powertrain is claimed to respond faster than a naturally aspirated V8 thanks to the racing-derived Motor Generator Unit energy system. Surprisingly for such a car type, the Project One can use an all-electric driving mode, which is rated at 15.5 miles. Stopping power is provided by a set of high-performance ceramic brakes. The regenerative braking system is capable of sending up to 80% of the braking energy to the battery.
Typically for a hypercar, the Mercedes-AMG Project One looks radical and exotic, with lots of design cues pointing out its motorsports origin. Its profile reminds that of a Le Mans prototype racer. On its roof, there's an air intake transferred from Formula 1 cars that fuses into an aerodynamic shark fin stretching down to the tail. The hypercar rolls on 10-spoke forged aluminum wheels wrapped in the tires specifically developed for this model. The doors open forwards and upwards, welcoming into the interior that combines high tech and practicality. Mercedes-AMG Project One accessories and parts inside the cockpit are either derived from or inspired by the F1 racing car, including the adjustable steering wheel and two bucket seats. Among the available amenities are the A/C system and two digital displays. This exclusive car is offered in only 275 units, but those who seek more uniqueness can find all needed add-ons among Mercedes-AMG Project One accessories that today's aftermarket offers. And our store has a wide range of Mercedes-AMG Project One parts and accessories on offer.
