Typical parts of any disc brake system, brake calipers, rotors, and friction pads operate together to slow down or stop the vehicle. The brake rotor spins together with the wheel; when a driver pushes the brake pedal, the pistons inside the brake calipers push the pads against the rotors. The braking effect is reached as a result of the friction appearing between brake pads and rotors. This friction can be stronger or weaker depending on the applied force, but anyway, it wears down both pads and rotors and makes them thinner over time. In some cases, the rotors can wear unevenly or even get cracked. If your brake rotors start malfunctioning, you will notice one or several specific symptoms.
Worn-out or deformed rotors usually develop squealing or squeaking noises. Another symptom is vibration or pulsation felt on the brake pedal. If your brake rotors are bad or failing, you may notice grooves or even cracks on their working surfaces. Brake problems are not very common in the Mazda CX-7, however, the rotors and pads inevitably wear out and need replacement.
