The Maserati Spyder is a 2-seat roadster, produced by Italian auto manufacturer Maserati from 2002 to 2007. In 2007 Maserati ceased its production and replaced the Spyder by the GranTurismo. The Spyder was unveiled at the 2001 Frankfurt Auto Show. As soon as it was introduced in North America, Forbes nominated the Spyder as the Best GT for 2001. The convertible is based on Ferrari/Maserati 4244 cc V8 platform and is equipped with Cambiocorsa six-speed electro-hydraulic manual transmission. The Spyder comes in 16 exterior colors and 10 shades of leather interior to choose from. Maserati Spyder has alloy 18-inch wheels, is 169.4-inch long, 71.7-inch wide, 51.4-inch high, and weights 3,792 pounds.
The next generation Maserati Spyder is based on the 4200 Gt Coupe. It is powered by Ferrari-tuned 4.2L V8 engine, with a six-speed manual or a six-speed Cambiocorsa paddle-shifted automanual to choose from. The most admired Spyder's option is a computer-controlled Skyhook active suspension. The Spyder's powertrain is also Ferrari based. The system allows the driver to choose from four operating modes, selected by means of console-mounted buttons. At first Maserati Spyder came with 15-spoke design, but customers preferred optional 7-spoke sport that became standard by 2005.
The 2005 Maserati Spyder has some changes in the front bumper and now is equipped with a horizontally ribbed radiator grille borrowed from Quattroporte. The new rear bumper looks sportier and has wide air intakes decorated by a black, tight mesh grille. The Spyder also faces new interior with changes in such Spyder parts, as dashboard, seats, and upper door panels. The reverse gear lever has a D option for selecting first gear. An information center comes standard with audio and climate controls, GPS navigation system, and hands-free GSM phone. As for safety features, the Maserati Spyder is outfitted with airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners.
Thanks to a suave body and efficient performing Spyder parts, the model enjoys a wide fanbase of drivers. Few models in its class deliver the sizzling style and attitude this one holds, as the Maserati Spyder exhibits a stand-alone look that rises above the masses. Throw in the intuitive handling and blistering acceleration, and there you have why this is one car people take notice of, especially when it is equipped with stylish accessories and parts..
