Since the time Lotus Cars first launched the unrivaled Elise in the early 1994, it earned a reputation as a true driver’s car for those who value premium sports cars designed to excite and perform. During the long Lotus history, its innovative engineering approach and meticulous design, has turned the Elise into a lightweight but highly efficient vehicle. The 2015 Elise was first introduced to the U.S. market in 2004 as the sports car meeting all the US crash standards, but not compromising the main concept "simplificate, then add lightness." So, the U.S. Elise's weight under 2,000 pounds, responsive chassis for the best seat-of-the-pants feel and phenomenal feedback with surefooted handling, stands it out as an ideal sports car solution for today's roads.
Following the vision “to add speed, add lightness,” the Elise is designed to deliver dynamic performance from each component thanks to bold engineering. The 2005 Elise had the Toyota-made 1.8-liter, water-cooled, naturally-aspirated engine that produces 189 HP and 138 lb. ft. of torque at 6,800 rpm, and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. For the next-generation Elise a few minor changes were made: the option of traction control and a limited-slip differential, lightweight forged alloy wheels and more comfortable ProBax seats. Alongside, hi-tech daytime running lights with bright headlamps for a highly distinctive look and sport LED tail lights with integrated reflectors became standard. The dramatic redesign of the frontal crash structure and so-named "bumperettes," touched the 2007 Elise to satisfy the U.S. bumper regulations. In 2008, the supercharged Elise SC was introduced with the Elise's standard features, while boasting the finest precision instrument display with a trip computer, along with revised options packages.
Utilizing new styling and more advanced capabilities, modern Elises feature a Toyota-sourced (and Yamaha-built) 1.8 L inline 4-cylinder that makes 189 HP at 7,800 rpm. It's the same high-revving mill that has been used in Toyotas, but it's been tuned by Lotus to broaden the power band and increase horsepower to 190 HP at 7,800 rpm and 133 pound-feet of torque at 6,800 rpm. Incorporating an exclusive rear diffuser design, it harmonises airflow underneath the rear of the car and provides clean appearance to the underbody at the same time. Lotus DPM (Dynamic Performance Management) adds to the Elise incredible handling and bespoke compound Yokohama AD07 tires make freeway on twisty back roads, while working in harmony with the suspension and chassis. You can customize your car with selectable Touring and Sport packages. Using the Sport mode allows you to improve DPM for safely exploring the limits further still. Also, a hardtop roof is available to ensure maximized protection.
Once you're inside, it's pretty cozy and spacious, though the design is simple and clean with only essentials. The Lotus Elise is offered with standard air-conditioning and a CD audio system. Comfort is provided by ergonomically designed sports bucket seats and a small and perfectly contoured steering wheel, while all the controls are simple to use not to distract your attention from the road. The Elise is equipped with a machined aluminum handbrake grip and gear-lever knob, as well as ideally positioned pedals. In case, the standard stereo features are not enough for you, an optional Alpine CD receiver with iPod and MP3 connectivity provides extra soundtracks through its 4 speaker system. So, hand built to deliver exhilaration and exclusivity, the Lotus Elise S Club Racer earned recognition for its great handling and "delightful simplicity," as well as the Elise S as a "reassuring and easy to understand sports car, whose performance delivers the pure driving experience sports car fans love'' by Sport Auto – France's widest-read sports car magazine.
Unparalleled driving dynamics and performance, innovative use of materials, attention to detail, and use of grid techniques make the Elise an attractive purchase for those who value the safest and easiest to drive vehicles on the road.
