Lincoln Continental is a brand of luxury automobiles sold by the Lincoln Motor Company. Together with the Lincoln Zephyr, the Continental is a Lincoln nameplate which has been used for the short-existing Continental sub-division during 1956–1957. When it comes to Lincoln, the Continental nameplate was used for almost five decades, from 1939 to 1948 and then from 1956 to 2002. While being the Lincoln flagship vehicle for the first three generations, the Continental nameplate received a special niche in the product line. During the new 1961 redesign of the Lincoln range, the three-model lineup was narrowed down to the Continental which was the only Lincoln sedan for the following sixteen years.
