The Land Rover LR3 is the third generation Discovery renamed for the North American market. Although the vehicle looks largely like the predecessor, the second-gen Discovery, these two are very different mechanically. The LR3 features a rather unconventional body construction combining a ladder-frame chassis and monocoque sections, which was called the Integrated Body Frame (IBF). Such a design was engineered to unite the strength and rigidity of the frame with lightness and low center of gravity peculiar to the monocoque. Among a number of other advanced mechanical solutions, the LR3 utilizes the air suspension system, which allows for a simple adjustment of the ground clearance and compensates vehicle’s inclination during sharp cornering.
