The Jeep Liberty was a compact SUV unveiled in 2002 with the hard task to replace the second-generation Cherokee, one of the most loved and successful SUVs in automotive history. Inspired by the Dakar and Jeepster concept vehicles, the Liberty featured a rugged overall appearance, which clearly stated the Jeep origin of the model, also highlighted by the outstanding off-road attitude, good ground clearance angle, and superior suspension system. As typical in Jeeps, the cabin was ergonomically and functionally designed, while a good engine lineup provided adequate performance. For 2008, the Jeep Liberty was heavily redesigned, introducing a more impressive off-road look, further exalted by the massive grille and by the bold bulging fenders. The Liberty was discontinued in 2012, replaced two years later by the revived Jeep Cherokee.
