Jeep has a long and rich history building pickup trucks. One of its most popular truck models is the Jeep Gladiator. This legendary Jeep brought many industry-firsts when it hit the market back in 1962, survived numerous company changes till the end of its production in the late 80s, and was eventually revived for the 2020 model year. It is remarkable for being based on a single platform for almost three decades of manufacturing, the one shared with the Jeep Wagoneer. It was marketed internationally and offered a whole lot of models allowing different buyers to have the right truck for their needs, including a lifestyle-oriented family hauler, a work truck for farming and delivery operations, and even a military vehicle.
The original Jeep Gladiator was a rugged and versatile RWD or 4WD truck based on a body-on-frame architecture. One of its noteworthy innovative features was an independent suspension setup in front instead of a solid axle. The Gladiator had a rather low stance but offered great clearance for maneuverability and off-road performance. What made it a real standout is the industry-first combination of an automatic transmission and 4-wheel drive. Other big novelties include power-assisted brakes and steering, plus a power takeoff for various accessories like snow plows. Soon after the Jeep Gladiator entered the market, it witnessed its original company, Willys Motors, changing its name to Kaiser Jeep Corporation. It was built by Kaiser till 1970, the year that the company was acquired by AMC.
In 1971, the Gladiator was renamed the J-Series while also being called simply “Jeep pickup.” The J2000 and J4000, later superseded by the J-10 and J-20, gained important updates from the new management, including more powerful engines, lighter and easier to operate tailgates, more durable transmission parts, and an advanced Quadra-Trac system. Although, despite these changes, the Jeep J-Series was an aging model that couldn't survive the fierce competition with newer Dodge trucks. It was phased out in 1988, soon after Chrysler bought AMC.
Starting in the early 2000s, there were numerous Gladiator concepts that hinted at renewing the production of this legendary Jeep pickup truck. Although, it wasn't until 2018 that the all-new Gladiator became a reality. Set to make its debut at the 2018 L.A. Auto Show, the long-awaited 2020 Jeep Gladiator is a stout crew cab pickup with the capability and design building on the original model's heritage but packed with modern-day technology. It is based on the Wrangler and features lightweight removable doors and a fold-down windshield just like its sibling. A 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 is standard, paired to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. The optional 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 is mated exclusively to the automatic transmission. A variety of off-road-oriented Jeep Gladiator parts and systems provide unmatched capability, namely, Dana 44 axles, locking differentials, a low-range transfer case, and others. The all-new Jeep Gladiator is rather advanced tech-wise, offering up to 80 safety features and the modern Uconnect infotainment complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Whether you're restoring an old Gladiator or are looking to personalize the late-model one, we have all Jeep Gladiator accessories and parts to do the job. From hard-to-find auto body parts to aggressive wheels and tires, we carry a wide range of Jeep Gladiator accessories and parts from aftermarket manufacturers known and trusted nationwide.
