The production of the Isuzu Trooper began in 1981. It was offered in three- and five-door body styles and had an impressive variety of engine options: a 1.9L I4, 2.3L I4, 2.6L I4, 2.8L V6, and some four-cylinder diesels. When it comes to the transmission, there were fewer variants: a five- or four-speed manual and four-speed automatic gearbox. The second generation introduced in 1991 was more efficient and powerful. Diesel and turbodiesel versions were not very popular, so the company decided to focus on gasoline engines and make them larger and mightier. As a result, the 3.2L and 3.5L V6s were offered.

Some of these powerplants made in the 1990s successfully run even today, and, to a large extent, this achievement became possible thanks to their owners who maintained the vehicles well and employed them properly.
