The Isuzu Rodeo was produced as the pick-up truck by the Isuzu company between 1988 and 2002. Isuzu Motors Japan has a heritage in trucks production that runs for 80 years. It is one of the largest diesel engine manufacturers in the world. Safety and economy, reliability and comfort are all standards of the Isuzu brand. It is one of the world's largest truck manufacturers. Therefore, the spirit and experience of Isuzu masters unveil in all the Isuzu parts and in every truck model, as well as in the Isuzu Rodeo. The Rodeo was manufactured and marketed under various nameplates. In Japan it was named the Isuzu Rodeo, in the United States it was known as the Isuzu Pickup and Chevrolet LUV. All United States Isuzu Rodeo parts and models were produced at Subaru-Isuzu Automotive, Inc. located in Lafayette, Indiana. On the North American market the Isuzu Rodeo at first appeared in 1987. The Rodeo pickup replaced the P'up (KB-Z) produced in Japan. Both 4-wheel drive and rear wheel drive were available. The Isuzu Rodeo came with a 2.3-liter 4ZD1 engine rated 96 horsepower and 2.6-liter 4ZE1 engine producing 120 horsepower. The 1993 model of the Isuzu Rodeo was the last carburated passenger car sold in the United States. The pickup truck was available on the American market till 1996, when it was replaced with the Isuzu Hombre. Production of Isuzu Rodeo two-door pickup truck was discontinued in 2004 worldwide.

The five-door Isuzu Rodeo premiered in the United States for the 1991 model year. In Japan it was named the Isuzu Wizard. The Rodeo was based on the GMT400 platform and came in three trim levels: S, XS and LS. The compact sport utility vehicle was equipped with either a 2.6-liter I4 engine rated 119 horsepower or a 3.1-liter V6 engine, produced by GM and equipped with automatic transmission. Both 4-wheel drive and rear wheel drive versions were available. The S version featured manually locking hubs. The XS and top line LS models had the automatically locking hubs. All models were equipped with split-folding rear seats to provide the additional cargo area. In 1993 the GM V6 engine was replaced with 3.2-liter 24-valve SOHC V6 engine rated 174 horsepower. Manually-locking hubs were no longer offered, nevertheless the transfer case shifter was floor-mounted. The Rodeo was offered with a re-calibrated suspension system. The 1995 brought changes to the Isuzu Rodeo accessories, thus the model came with modified dashboard and steering wheel. The front grille had the "ISUZU" badge, which was smaller in size. For the 1996 Rodeo, the 3.2-liter V6 engine power was increased up to 194 horsepower.

The Isuzu Rodeo second generation was introduced in 1998. The front and rear Isuzu Rodeo parts were redesigned. The exterior design also differed by such Rodeo accessories as the larger fenders, 16-inch wheels instead of 15-inch, the enlarged wheelbase with a rear mounted spare tire. The 5-door Rodeo was offered with either a 3.5-liter V6 engine or a 3.2-liter V6 engine producing 205 horsepower. This midsized SUV was equipped with the new adjustable shock absorbers. The cruise control became standard on V6 Rodeo. The automatic transmission was standard on the LSE model. In 2004 the Isuzu Rodeo 4-cylinder engine was replaced with a new 3.5-liter gasoline direct injection engine with rated power of 250 horsepower. The Rodeo was produced until 2004.

One of the templates for the current SUV generation is the Isuzu Rodeo. Among the first of its kind, the Rodeo offers a proud penchant for performance and handling that has seen it through the series' evolution. The Rodeo provides a great amount of passenger space without overdoing it and cramping the front. It is rugged enough to bang with the big boys, but its overall sensibility is what shadows it away from the rest. Still a mainstay across the land, the Isuzu Rodeo is a pioneering SUV that still delivers.

Worked well at first, but showed signs of wear earlier than I'd hoped. Still, it's serviceable.
