The Isuzu Axiom is a four wheel drive mid-size SUV produced by the Japanese automaker Isuzu from 2002 till 2004. It was produced in the United States joint-plant of Subaru-Izusu and was based on the Rodeo model platform. The Axiom moniker reflects its “knife blade” car styling which was chosen as the result of the contest held by Isuzu in 2001 and picked by Dr. Hakan Urey from Washington. This SUV features a torque-on-demand four-wheel drive system and is powered by a direct-injection V6 engine, producing up to 250 horsepower.
The Isuzu Axiom was sold in two trim levels: base and XS. Base versions were equipped with the following Isuzu Axiom parts: air-conditioning, keyless entry, full power accessories, a CD changer and a trip computer. The uplevel XS boasted such Isuzu parts as fog lamps, a sunroof, heated front seats, and leather upholstery. The extreme styling of this SUV was so radical and unique, that the great number of the design ideas was borrowed by other SUV manufacturers later.
In 2004 the Lafayette plant producing Axioms became exclusively owned by Subaru and the Isuzu Axiom production was discontinued. This was also the end of all Japanese-built consumer vehicles sales in the U.S. The rebadged GMC SUVs and pickups, like Canyon and Envoy, became successors to the Axiom. Like some other Isuzu vehicles, the Axiom was never sold in Canada.
Isuzu designed the Axiom with the versatile driver in mind. Punchy performance and responsive handling give it the drivability SUV owners need, and the interior room elevates the prospect of a nice, comfortable journey. Each series of the Axiom comes prepped with a thoughtfully placed dash panel that places all of the controls within a convenient distance. It's handsome and aero-styled exterior allows for an attractive look not normally put in play with SUVs of this size. Dressed up with some individual personality, the Axiom comes alive in an expressive way.
