The Isuzu Amigo is a compact sport-utility vehicle that was introduced by Japanese automaker Isuzu in 1989. It was offered both with 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive, powered by 2.3L and 2.6L engines accordingly. A car, that allowed its owners to go off-road but also was enjoyable for comfortable city drive, had a detachable rear roof for open air ride. The first generation Amigo was equipped with a 5 speed manual gear box, and the 2 wheel drive version was completed with an optional 4 speed automatic transmission only for 1992-1993 year models. The production was discontinued in 1994.
The second generation of Isuzu Amigo was restarted in 1998, delivering power-enhancing Isuzu parts, new modernized body style, shared with its brother model Rodeo, equipped with the hard top. The model featured the following standard Isuzu Amigo parts: soft top, split folding rear seats, power windows, mirrors and locks, audio system with CD player, tilt steering and was capable of seating 5 passengers. The interior descends from Honda Passport. The 4,250 pounds weight of new Amigo was carried by a 3.2L V6 engine, producing 205 horsepower with the 22 MPG fuel consumption.
The Amigo is providing acceptable off-road handling and brings good capabilities on small trails, which proves its Spanish name that means “friend.” From a safety prospective, the model came equipped with the pink airbags, anti-lock braking system and side impact door beams, all included into the list of standard Isuzu Amigo parts and accessories. In 2002 Amigo was renamed to the Rodeo Sport, and the production was discontinued in 2004. Neither Amigo nor its 4 door brother Rodeo were sold in Canada starting 2002.
The Isuzu Amigo is a tough customer that delivers tasteful appeal along with its base qualities. A competitive truck-based SUV, the Amigo has established itself a nifty reputation for being a solidly performing vehicle perfect for the adventurous type of driver. The exterior design is a unique blend of angular dimensions combined with smooth contours that provokes a stylish overall image. You can fit the necessary amount of cargo if you have to, or just cruise with a rugged brand of fashion-it's your choice. Either way, the Amigo is a popular member of the Isuzu roster that still performs.
