The Hyundai i20 is a supermini car produced since 2008 by the South Korean automotive manufacturer Hyundai. This vehicle debuted at the Paris Motor Show in October 2008 and replaced the Hyundai Getz in most of its markets though the latter was still manufactured until 2011. Like its predecessor, the automobile came with front-wheel drive and in three- and five-door versions. Two generations of the Hyundai i20 have been already launched. The first generation was in production from 2008 to 2014. The second generation was launched in 2014. In 2014 Hyundai also introduced the Hyundai i20 WRC, a World Rally Car based on the i20. Designed for use in the 2014 World Rally Championship, the i20 WRC debuted at the Monte Carlo Rally in January 2014.
The first generation Hyundai i20 was built on a completely new platform developed at Hyundai's European Technical Center in Germany. Depending on the generation and trim level, the vehicle was offered with a variety of four-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines. The gasoline engines ranged from a 1.2 L one to a more powerful 1.6 L one. Three transmission options were available for these power plants. The 1.6 L was coupled to a six-speed manual transmission, while the other ones were backed by either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. A five-speed manual transmission was the only option for all diesel engines. Safety was one of the highlights of this hatchback which is why it got a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. The Hyundai i20 was equipped with six air bags for maximum protection, and an Antilock Brake System with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution that helps to control the automobile on slippery roads. The automobile also got rain sensing wipers, central locking, darkness sensing headlamps, keyless entry and front and rear fog lamps.
The second generation Hyundai i20 was introduced in 2014. This vehicle has a new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design developed in Germany. The front fascia of the i20 gets a distinctive hexagonal radiator grille, new high performance bi-function headlamps with LED daytime running lamps and trapezoidal front fog lights. The vehicle is offered with a wide range of exterior colors to choose from. The cabin of the automobile is spacious and provides more comfort for the driver and passengers than the first generation i20. Hyundai offers two diesel and two gasoline engines for the second generation i20. The gasoline ones include a 100 hp 1.4 MPi and a 84 hp 1.25 MPi while the diesel ones are a 90 hp 1.4 CRDi and a 75 hp 1.1 CRDi. All engines come with a six-speed manual transmission except for the 1.25 L one that is paired with a five-speed manual. In terms of safety, the second generation i20 is available with electronic stability control and vehicle stability management that ensure superior braking performance. It also features an emergency stop signal, lane departure warning system, tire pressure monitoring system, hill-start assist control and static bending lights.
Spacious and stylish, the Hyundai i20 is a top-end hatchback that offers fuel efficiency, safety and entertainment. Available with multiple options and packed with high-end safety features, the vehicle delivers a pleasant and safe driving experience. In order to provide the ultimate convenience and comfort for both passengers and driver, the i20 is available with a state-of-the-art navigation system, high-quality audio system, full auto air conditioning system and AUX and USB connectivity. A sleek eye-catching appearance, cutting-edge interior design and smooth handling make it a top choice in its segment.
