A Leader in Truck Storage Solutions

The GMC C/K is a light pickup truck that first got its start in the early '60s. Later, the truck would go on to become the GMC Sierra, one of the nameplate's most recognizable models. When it first premiered, the C/K was available with a variety of inline six-cylinder engines and later, a V8 option. Towards the end of the decade, the second-generation GMC C/K rolled off the line, showing off various changes to the exterior as well as new engine options including an improved V8 configuration that produced around 255 horsepower. Other revisions greeted the model as the 1970s settled in, with the truck receiving a new front-end grille and a bigger 305 cubic inch V8 engine. Incidentally, the model's Chevy sibling was the recipient of 402 cubic inch V8, but GM chose not to include it in the GMC version of the vehicle.

In 1973, GM released the third generation of the GMC C/K, which featured the revised design and performance-oriented under-hood GMC C/K parts. Wheelbases for both the short and long truck beds were extended, and a crew cab version of the model was made available, as well. Different trim levels were introduced. These trims included the base Sierra, Sierra Grande, High Sierra, and Sierra Classic. Each trim offered an upgrade of amenities and drivetrain features. In the base Sierra, the GMC C/K did not offer a ton in the way of comfort and technology. However, with each higher trim, the options became more pronounced. In the Sierra Grande, the truck added chrome trim. For the High Sierra, air conditioning, insulated door panels, cloth seats, interior aluminum trim, and carpeting were highlights. For the top-level Sierra Classic, the C/K was decked out even more with wood grain, power accessories, a titled steering wheel, optional cruise control, and everything else the previous trims offered. This generation of the C/K lasted until 1987.

1988 saw the arrival of the fourth generation of the CK, which was constructed off of GM's GMT400 platform along with the Chevy CK and Suburban. It was made available in eight different configurations depending on the driver's choice of four cabs, which were the Fleetside Single Cab, Fleetside Extended Cab, Fleetside Crew Cab, and Stepside Single Cab. Each cab configuration could be had in two or four-wheel drive. Engine options were a 4.3L V6 rated at 175 horsepower, a 5.0L V8 (210 hp), 5.7L V8, and a 6.2L diesel V8. ¾ ton and one-ton trucks had an available 7.4L V8, as well. By the '90s, the C/K began receiving a slew of updates, as the engines were given a boost (most notably, the addition of the Vortec V8 that saw its hp rise from 255 to 290), ABS brakes became standard equipment, speed-sensitive steering, and airbags, first to the driver's side (1995) and then for the passenger's side (1997).

As the basis for two of GM's most successful trucks (the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra), the GMC C/K enjoys a pedigree few domestic machines can compete with. Known for providing heavy-duty reliability, the C/K is recognized for being a hauler that can get the job done whenever called upon. When it comes to any truck, one of the key ways to give it a more custom, personalized feel is by choosing the right additions to go along with your lifestyle.
