Late model muscle cars look great and perform much better than their ancestors in almost every way. They're faster, handle better and easier to live with for every day driving. However, there's one area where the old muscle cars win hands down and that's sound. If there's one rap that can be made against modern muscle cars it's that too many of them don't sound like muscle cars. If you want your muscle machine to sound as good as it goes and looks, then get a Gibson American Muscle Car Axle-Back Exhaust.
The heart of the American Muscle Car system is the Gibson Superflow Muffler with Convergent Flow Technology (CFT). Gibson knows that increasing exhaust flow is critical for improving power, and that restriction is the biggest obstacle to increasing that flow. Gibson Superflow mufflers have some of the lowest restriction ratings of any muffler on the market.
But Gibson takes the next step with their Convergent Flow Technology (CFT) and actually tunes the exhaust as it flows through the muffler. With CFT the muffler isn't just an impediment to flow that must be overcome, it becomes a tool to increase power and improve sound. CFT mufflers feature a unique, internal angular design that creates a venturi effect. Exhaust gases converge to equalize and synchronize exhaust pulses while chambers create pressure to draw exhaust gases into the muffler and expel them at a higher velocity. Directional louvered tuning ports guide exhaust gases into resonance chambers to create a deep, throaty exhaust tone. And the increased flow and great sound is achieved without using any muffler packing, so there's no packing to blow out. Your exhaust flow and sound will remain consistent throughout the life of the muffler.
To further reduce restriction and improve exhaust flow, Gibson uses mandrel bent tubing. First Gibson selects the optimal tubing diameter for the best engine efficiency, then they use CNC mandrel tube benders to make every tubing bend. Mandrel bending ensures smooth bends and makes sure the pipe maintains its size and shape throughout the entire length. Tubes that aren't mandrel bent can lose a percentage of their diameter in sharp bends, creating restriction. CNC mandrel bending provides consistent bending so every system flows as designed.
Finally, all Gibson exhaust system components are joined with a “slip fit”, where an exhaust system component fits into the larger opening of the next downstream component. This method reduces the turbulence that is common with ‘ball-and-socket” or “flange-and-gasket” joints, which can cause power-robbing backpressure.
The American Muscle Car Axle-Back Exhaust System is available in your choice of stainless steel or aluminized steel. Each comes with highly polished, intercooled T304 stainless steel clampless exhaust tips. The system comes with everything required for installation, including zinc plated factory style hangers and clamps, and detailed instructions. Aluminized systems are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship, but not rust through, for as long as the original purchaser owns the vehicle on which the system is installed. Stainless steel systems are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship, including rust through, for as long as the original purchaser owns the vehicle on which the system is installed.
Gibson exhaust systems are manufactured in the USA.
Gibson® Performance Exhaust is a family run company based in Corona, California. Owners Ron and Julie Gibson started the company after they couldn't find performance products to meet their own needs, and decided to build exhaust systems themselves. Today Gibson is one of the largest aftermarket performance exhaust products companies in the world. Gibson is committed to building cost-effective exhaust systems that deliver more performance for the dollar, and make more horsepower and torque in the lower rpm range, where it's needed for real world driving. All of Gibson's street applications are 50-state emissions legal and do not affect the factory warranty.
