The Genesis G80 is the first model by Hyundai’s luxury car brand. Though it comes from an all-new automotive brand, it isn’t an all-new car; in fact, it first saw the world in 2009 as the Hyundai Genesis and was refurbished, having received the new name, longer list of standard equipment, revised packages, and restyled front end. The powertrain of the new model was taken from the last year's Hyundai Genesis without any changes. Power comes from either a 3.8 V6 or a 5.0 V8 engine, capable of 311 hp and 420 hp, respectively. Both are mated to an 8-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. All-wheel drive (Hyundai’s intelligent HTRAC system) is available optionally on V6-equipped cars. Also borrowed from the Hyundai Genesis are some of the features previously available in Signature and Tech trim levels, that are now standard in all Genesis G80 models. These include lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a power-adjustable steering wheel. Apart from the standard model, there are Premium and Ultimate packages with extra luxury and convenience features such as LED fog lights, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, leather seat upholstery, 19-inch wheels, head-up display, etc. The G80 got the industry’s highest safety ratings, including 5 stars from NHTSA and the 2016 Top Safety Pick Plus by IIHS.
