Genesis took the veils off the domestic version of its third car at the Hyundai-Genesis Design Center event that took place in Namyang in 2017. The Genesis G70 is ambitiously aimed at challenging the long-established luxury sedans from German manufacturers, and it already has the needed bravado to entice some of the buyers away from the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Audi A4. Inside and out, it looks and feels like a European luxury sedan and seems to be designed with the balance of the finest traits of cars from Munich and Stuttgart in mind.
The G70 shares the platform and powertrain with the Kia Stinger, which means a stiff body structure, long hood and short overhangs, rear- or all-wheel drive, and four- and six-cylinder engines. At the lower end of the list is a 2.0-liter turbo four with an output rated at 252 hp. Upgrading to the Sport package will give 255 horsepower. The second option is a 3.3-liter twin-turbo 370-horsepower V6 that pushes the car to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds, thus making it quicker than an M3. The European market gets the third choice – a 2.2-liter diesel I4. The Hyundai-sourced eight-speed automatic is standard across the lineup, as is a limited-slip differential in the rear. To emphasize the car's sporty character, there are Genesis G70 parts and systems such as brake-based dynamic torque vectoring and launch control, complemented by a miltilink rear suspension design and rack-mounted power steering driven by a motor. This all is aimed at improving every aspect of driving performance from steering precision and cornering control to ride comfort.
As far as the exterior design is concerned, the Genesis G70 is a cleanly-styled, athletic premium sedan that looks less restrained than its German contenders. The interior is simple and easy to use, evidently designed with a German logic to it. Yet the cabin is not as minimalist as that of a BMW car. You'll find aluminum trim pieces throughout the cockpit, a sculpted sport steering wheel, diamond stitching on Nappa leather seats, and lots of other Genesis G70 accessories and quality, soft-touch surfaces that render a classy look and feel. This luxury sedan incorporates a wide range of modern-day convenience and connectivity technologies that include standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and an 8'' touchscreen that supports MirrorLink. Safety-wise, the Genesis G70 is well-armed as well, offering 9 airbags, active hood, and a suite of driver assist tech like emergency braking, highway driving and collision avoidance assists, driver awareness warning, and more. If there's something you'd like to improve in your luxury sedan, you'll find what you need among a plethora of Genesis G70 accessories and parts that today's aftermarket offers.
