Vehicle & Parts Protection
The Ford Ranchero was produced from 1957 to 1979. It was the first of its kind being the first car with a truck bed. This vehicle is nothing less than the perfect combination of the sleek look of a sedan with the utility of a pickup truck. That unique combination made the Ranchero one of the most desirable Fords. The first generation of the Ranchero debuted in 1957 and was offered in versions: Standard and Custom. The latter featured attractive body side molding and much more luxurious accessories compared to the Standard trim. Both the Standard and Custom Ranchero could be powered by any engine available for Ford vehicles including a 5.8L engine called "Thunderbird Special."
From 1960 through 1966 the Ford Ranchero followed the Falcon body style design and became the compact Ranchero pickup. Thanks to its new body style, the vehicle became more economical, compact, lighter and less expensive. Under the hood there was a 2.4L engine making 90 HP. The third generation of the Ranchero was the perfect blend of the Falcon and Fairlane. The vehicle also featured safety-padded windshield pillars and a dual-circuit braking system with a dual-chambered master cylinder. The Ranchero was available with a variety of engines beginning with a 3.3 L straight-6 and ending with a 6.4L FE-series big-block V8. By the end of the 1960s, powerful sport cars were on top of popularity. To meet the market demands, Ford built the third generation of the Ranchero on the same platform as the Torino.
The vehicle was offered in three trim levels: the Base Ranchero, Ranchero 500, and Ranchero GT. The vehicle was completely restyled for the fifth generation. It featured a shallow-pointed grille and front end with smooth, somewhat more curvaceous lines influenced by coke bottle styling. The new trim, the Squire, was available for the 1970 model year. It featured a woodgrain interior. The 1977 Ranchero became the ultimate in truck luxury with the Thunderbird/LTD body style. In addition to the new longer, LTD body lines, the Ranchero was available with many of the LTD standard equipment such as power seats and windows, power steering, power disc brakes, and tow packages.
