Ford Freestyle Accessories & Parts

The Ford Freestyle was first previewed at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show before it hit the streets for the 2005 model year. The Freestyle was preceded by the Taurus wagon and is succeeded by the Taurus X. The Ford Freestyle was constructed off of the D3 platform along with the Five Hundred, Mercury Montego, and Volvo XC90. Inside the Freestyle were three rows of seats with enough space for seven passengers, which stood out due to the vehicle's surprising amount of interior room. The Ford Freestyle initially measured in with a wheelbase of 112.9 inches, a width of 74.4 inches, a height of 68.2 inches, and an overall length of 199.8 inches. For its last year of production, the width was increased to 74.9 inches, height to 68.25 inches, and the overall length to 200.1 inches. The wheelbase remained unchanged.

As for the powertrain parts of the Ford Freestyle, under the hood it had a 3.0L Duratec V6 capable of 203 horsepower and 207 pounds-per-foot of torque directed through a CVT (continuously variable transmission). The model was also available in both front and four-wheel drive, and surprisingly, most drivers chose to go with the all-wheel drive version of the Freestyle over the standard front-wheel. Three trim levels were offered: SE, SEL, and Limited (similar to other Ford models such as the Freestar). Inside the base SE was air conditioning, a CD stereo, a power driver's seat, second-row captain's chairs, and full power accessories. The SEL included such Ford Freestyle parts as an automatic-dimming rearview mirror, automatic headlights, heated side mirrors, and an in-dash CD audio system. The top-grade Limited took it a step further with dual-zone automatic climate control, power passenger seats, driver-seat memory, heated front seats, and 18" wheels included into the list of the standard Ford Freestyle parts. For 2007, the Freestyle's last model year, the SE trim level was discontinued.

As for safety, the Ford Freestyle was equipped with standard antilock brakes, front airbags and optional front side-curtain airbags and head curtain airbags. Power adjustable pedals, rear parking sensors, and (come 2006) GPS navigation were optional accessories as well. Ford halted production of the Freestyle to make room for the Taurus X in 2008. Although the Freestyle was available for just several years, it still managed to make an impression on the industry. In its first year of production, the Ford Freestyle was nominated as the North American Truck of the Year (2005), but ended up losing out to its stable-mate, the Escape Hybrid. It was also named to Automobile Magazine's 50 Great New Cars List and recognized as a Consumer Guide Recommended Buy (2006).
